How to fix volume problem on Amethyst iPig Speakal iPod Dock

Volume issues seem to be quite prevalent with these devices. Read on to understand how to fix the problem. This may also work with the iPanda, iBoo and other docks by Amethyst.

If you are experiencing the volume randomly going up to eardrum shattering levels or going down to a whisper for no reason at all.... it is because of the silly touch (over) sensitive volume controls on the device.

Disconnect the iPig and remove the 4 screws on the base of the unit. Be careful as you take the sub woofer out. Make sure not to pull too hard or you may sever the cable going to the PCB. Unplug the black cable from the sub woofer by pressing down on the small metal clip, this will give you more space to manoeuvre inside the iPig. Look inside the iPig and you will see two pink and white cables coming down from the area where the iPigs ears are. These cables connect to a PCB. Disconnect both of these cables and reconnect the black cable to your sub woofer.... then re-assemble the iPig.

Your iPig should now work properly albeit without the touch sensitive ears. Just use your remote control and you are good to go. Happy Days! Comment if you have any questions....

  1. my ipig dropped from its home on the shelf the other day and now the bass doesn't seem to work (it still plays but lots of treble). I opened it up and the magnet attached to the speaker has come away. Do you know if there is a way to fix this?

    Thanks!

  2. For that you will probably have to take out the sub woofer and take it to a speaker repair professional. You could try sticking the magnet back on with super glue, but that may not fix it properly. Your mileage may vary!

  5. Hi, my ipig connects to the ipod but no sound comes out at all, is there a way in which to fix this?

  6. Could be that the volume has gone completely down.... try disconecting the ears from the PCB and put the volume up with your control. Failing that, your speakers are probably blown.

  7. Hello, whenever I try to connect my ipig to my phone the red light at the front showing that it is on will flash on and off. The music will then cut out when the light goes off. I have tried connecting it to my laptop and ipad to see if it was just the device but it doesn't work for these either. I have also checked that it is not the charger. Please help!

  9. I would check and see if something isn't making proper contact on the pcb of the speaker. That's probably the most likely cause..

  10. Hello,
My iPig just randomly stops working sometimes as in no sound at all but if I leave it alone for a couple of days it then works again. Any ideas on why this is or how to fix it?

  11. Most probable cause is a dry solder joint somewhere on the ipig. If you are handy with a soldering iron have a go. Also, always helps to check capacitors for leaking and replace if they are.

Hi. My ipig (what a great product) has suddenly developed a loud hum even heard through the music. Is it likely to be the mains adaptor which gets pretty warm?
    Thanks

  13. I would try a different power supply if you have one. Humming noises are telltale signs of a transformer on the blink or possibly other components within the power supply. Good luck!

  14. Mine stoped working all of a sudden. I can notice a very quiet sound of music coming from the subwofer, but nothing from the rest of the speakers. My theory is that either the mother board or one of the capacitors went bad. Is there any weak spots in the motherboard or something i can do?

  15. Good morning, any chance there is a wiring diagram available? Somebody inserted the incorrect charger into the unit and some of the electronic components burnt. I can not see what their values were, that is why I need a diagram in order to procure and replace them.

  16. Don't know if you're still about.
Daughter has one of these with the volume problem. Unfortunately the remote packed up long ago. Was wondering if it was possible to fit a rotary volume switch to cure the problem?.

  17. Gave mine away ages ago. Sorry, but don't see why you wouldn't be able to add a rotary volume switch to this.
